Day:

01

After breakfast you meet your climbing guides and porters for briefing.  Transfer to machame gate and start the climb to Machame hut 3,000m, which will take about 6 hours walk through rain forest and giant heatherMACHAME HUT CAMP (3,000M).

Rise early and climb up a steep ridge for 3-4 hours,  then the path drops into the river gorge before climbing more gently for another 3-4 hours into open moorland of ShiraPlateau SHIRA CAMP SITE ( 3,840M).

A long trek to Barranco.  This camp lies in a sheltered area below the spectacular cliffs of the Breach wall.  The Breach wall, the dome of Uhuru and the edge of the Heim Glacier dominate the head of the valley.  BARANCO CAMP (3,900M).

Up the steep Baranco wall with some sections of very easy scrambling and drop down again to the karanga Valley.  This is a short walking day, 3-4 hours with an optional acclimatization hike in afternoon up onto the scree below the glaciers.  KARANGA CAMP.

Up to a new camp about 150m above Barafu Hut perched high on a rocky bluff at 4,750m.  Fantastic views across to Mawenzi peak, and a bit less to climb tomorrow morning! This is another short walking day, about 4 hours, with less exertion and a good rest in afternoon immediately before the hard summit day. BARAFU HUT (4,750M).

At midnight the trek begins up to the final steep, scree section to reach Stella point.  Walk steadily up the ridge and around the crater to reach Uhuru peak, your ultimate goal, at 5895m.  From the summit the trek descends to overnight at Mweka Hut/High Camp.  MWEKA HUT/HIGH CAMP (3000M).

Covering the last section of the mountain, the trek continues down through the forests to the gate where your vehicle will be waiting to transport you back to Arusha for a well-earned hot shower! BOMA GUEST HOME (B/B).This can also be done in 6 days – instead of sleeping at Karanga camp you will walk down to Barafu hut.
